Introduction to KA Technology and Engineering

During the first week of Knowledge Area (KA) Tech and Engineering, each group was given the assignment to choose a specific technology and its application in a specific industry. The assignment is aiming that students could dive deeper into technology development and using their creativity to decide which part of the business or process activity the technology could apply. Students are expected to give a business analysis in terms of cost-benefit analysis and the impact in the PCOI (Process, Control, Organisation, and Information).

Which technology to choose? 

With a group of four students, numerous ideas were popped up during the discussion. We immediately surfing on the internet to gain more information about technology in the manufacturing industry. 

There are some interesting technologies we found:

  • Powered exoskeleton by Ekso Bionics

  • Augmented Reality in Boeing and Deloitte



  • Artificial Intelligence in Sherrit Technologies


  • Cobot by Universal Robots (Manufacturing automation)

  • 3D Printing in production

Augmented Reality

We ended up choosing AR technology, specifically in the wiring assemble at Boeing in collaboration with Upskill's Skylight software. We chose this technology due to the vast option of application in the industrial sector, especially in the manufacturing industry that would bring a great positive impact on the business process. The AR application at Beoing is quite an interesting topic because it is proven that the wiring production time is reduced by 25% and error rates is effectively cut to zero.
